Hello! We'd love some recommendations on where to stay for a couple days before our Mediterranean cruise. We're healthy and in our 50s and willing to walk. We won't have a car.
-walking distance from colosseum
-includes breakfast
-hotel w one bed
Look at Hotel Smerado. Great reviews on RS TravEl Form as well as Google and Booking.com. We are booked for 3 nights in August before our cruise. Great responses from hotel with all of my email questions!
We always stay in the Termini area just for the convenience of the transportation both in Rome and to the Civit..... port. We have use Aberdeen and Sonya. My wife prefers Hotel Sonya because she thinks the lattes are better. If so, it is a small difference. Sonya is handy only a couple of blocks from Termini across from the Opera House (see map). Aberdeen is a couple of blocks further away. Both excellent hotels. The Termini area has range of food option from white table cloth to pizza. Several excellent restaurants. Colosseum is 20 mins from there and about an hour to Vatican. And easy to catch train to the port.
I am not a big fan of the Smeraldo because it is in the Pantheon area. That means at least a taxi from airport and a taxi to the train station. But it would be a little less walking distance to major sites than from the Termini. Even though taxis in Rome are relatively cheap and mostly honest, I still prefer to avoid them. Probably mostly personal preference.
Welcome
