Will be spending two days in Rome in early November. I'm planning to use the Hop on Hop off bus. Would welcome thoughts on top sites in the city. Don't care for a death march-instead want a modest pace with time for nice lunch, etc.
a guide book will hel you a lot. Also books called "top 10 not to miss"...are very good for what you want
Paul,
You might want to try and find a copy of either the Italy or Rome Guidebooks at your local Bookstores or Library. There is LOTS of information there on the best sites to see, as well as sample walking Itineraries, information on local Guides, Hotels and Restaurants.
It's difficult to make a recommendation on "top sites" as I don't know what you're interested in or what you most want to see? The Guidebooks will help you sort that out.
Happy travels!
My 3 "top sites" would be the Colisuem, St Peters and the Vatican.
Then the Forum.
That would fill 2 days for me!
Hi Paul - My top three spots would be The Spanish Steps and surrounding streets, The Trevi Fountain which is walking distance from The Steps, and The Via Veneto , which is also walking distance. The cafes on Via Veneto are quite lovely - great spot to stop for lunch.
The Open Air Bus can also be picked up on The Via Veneto and it allows you to see the other major sites at your pace, getting off and back on as you want to.
Enjoy my Birth City, Ciao, Greg
