Romantic Spot for Picnic near Barga

Hi,
Hi, I'm looking to take my wife on a romantic picnic in the mountains near Barga, Italy (above Florence). Anyone have any recommendations? Could be a national park, or an overlook, or in some old city garden or even on hotel grounds. I just want it to be a quiet romantic place for us. Thanks for your help! Michael

I know where Barga is, but if you are looking for a place "above Florence" where you can see the view of Florence, Barga is too far. Barga is near Lucca. The area where you are is called Garfagnana. It's a very forested valley surrounded by mountains. You can find places to have picnics practically at every turn. If you are interested in a National Park, there is the Park of the Apuan Alps. Go to Castelnuovo from Barga and take the road to Arni. You'll be in some major forested areas where you can have all the picnics you want. Just drive around until you find a spot. The drive from Arni all the way down to Massa is spectacular. I hope you are a good driver on mountain roads.

Roberto, I'm sorry - I'm from Rhode Island - that's just how I talk. And every direction is by a landmark....go straight by McDonalds, turn left at Dunkin Donuts and stop by Sonic Restaurant! :) So above Florence was 'above Florence' on the map! Thanks for you time!

Hi Roberto, Yes that is the place I am looking for information on. As I see it on the map, Barga is in the mountains about an hour northwest of Florence. I was no boy scout so I could be wrong! :) I am staying at the Renaissance Il Ciocco Tuscany. It's in Barga. HOTEL LINK
