Romantic Hotels in Rome and Venice

Looking for recommendations for wonderful hotels in Venice and in Rome. What are the best areas to stay (not in the thick of the touristy stuff, but not too far removed from the city centers either)? Did you stay somewhere that really left a wonderful impression? Any places to avoid?

I second the Locanda Orseolo for Venice, Barbara makes the most fantastic crepes for breakfast! Great location too.

We loved La Calcina in the Dorsoduro area of Venice. The canal-view rooms are lovely, in a simple (not ornate) classic way. And they have a rooftop terrace that you can book for an hour for exclusive use. Book at sunset and take a bottle of wine for a romantic start to your evening.

Hi Jessica,

We thought that aromabb.it was great. We had the flowers room, with it's own private terrace. Just lovely and inexpensive (relatively speaking!) It was in the Termini neighborhood, so really not very pretty, but we loved it. Check out their website. The owner was very kind to us.

We also loved Casa Rezzonico in Venice. Quiet area, but 15 minutes from San Marco and Rialto. The brothers who own it are a delight. Rooms were spacious, clean, very comfortable.

Have a great time. We had a delightful trip and wouldn't change a thing. And won't stay anywhere else because our experiences were so positive.
