Roman Forum view

I'm not clear if it is possible to view the Roman Forum from the terrace on Capitoline Hill without buying entry tickets to the museums. Also, is this the same view as the one from the Tabularium?

We'd like to view the Forum around sunset on our arrival day and go to the Capitoline Museums on another day when we have plenty of time.

Great idea for a first night in Rome. If you later go into the Forum be sure to do the walk around the Palantine Hill.

Thank you for the links, Tod. The views look similar to what I remember seeing when we did this before, but I still don't recall whether we had to buy tickets to the Museums in order to get to the terrace view.

I do remember we walked up the long flight of steps (aka Michelangelo's Grand Staircase) that lead to Piazza del Campidoglio, thru the Piazza, and if memory serves, just kept walking to a terrace on the other side of the piazza that had incredible views of the Forum. We were up a bit on a balcony, not at street level....

It only matters in that I'd love to see this view at sunset again but know we will not have time for the museums beforehand due to our arrival time. I'd prefer to go to the museums on another day in the morning.

I have never had to get tickets to those areas, as you don't have to enter any buildings.....UNLESS they have put up a checkpoint at the top of the stairs, I don't see how it would be ticketed....

That was our experience as well in Novenber 2023. There are at least two viewpoints in that area.

Thank you all for your input! It's my vague memory that sunset view in the way we're talking about is doable...can't wait!
