Does the Forum offer its own tours, like those at the Colosseum? I have gone to the coopCulture site, but don't see any reference to tours of Forum there, although previous topics have mentioned them being available. Thanks!
You can get a free RS audioguide download before you go. That's what we did. There are human guides available for hire, but I can't give you any info. on them. We saw both large groups and small, private groups strolling around with professional guides.
Yes, the forum offers it's own tours. Click on the plan your visit tab to see the tours available:

they also offer audio guides if you don't want to take a tour.

I prefer an audio guide for a place as large as the Forum, group guides tend to rush the group along, in my opinion. So much history took place in the Forum that I like to hang out a bit (especially if I can find a spot of shade).
I'm with Zoe on this one. I much prefer an audio guide so that I can go at my own pace and stop and start when I want to. The really good audio guides will have plenty of information in them to keep you entertained and informed.

We found the Rick Steves audio guide well done, informative and very easy to use. And, as mentioned in an earlier post, it's free!
Thanks everyone. We're planning to use some RS audio guides for other stops along our way, but hadn't thought about it for this one. Zoe--did you rent directly from the Forum or use some other audio guide or app when you visited the Forum?
