roman forum and colosseum tours, right now

Hi all, we are in Rome and there are many more tourists than I expected. We are trying to figure the the best and cheapest way to visit the Colosseum and Roman Forum, and maybe the underground tour too. I am a single mom with 12 and 13 year old sons. thanks.

Hi there -
"Best" and "cheapest" can be very different things but...

Cheapest: go to the ticket kiosk at the Palatine or Forum and buy your ticket. Queues there will be much, much shorter than at the Colosseum, and that ticket covers the Palatine/Forum AND the Colosseum. This is absolutely the cheapest way to go, although you may also want to rent audio guides as there's really nothing otherwise to tell you what you're looking at.

Your children will be free at all three of these sites although you should be prepared to show proof of age.

You must visit the Palatine and Forum TOGETHER as they're considered a single attraction and are connected to each other. Or just visit the Forum if not interested the Palatine, although I recommend doing both. You just can't split them up. Then use your ticket to skip the ticket line at the Colosseum. *

I doubt you can get a last-minute underground tour from the Colosseum office as those fill up far in advance. Walks Of Italy has a highly recommended tour of the Underground, Palatine and Forum but it would be quite expensive for the three of you and may already be booked up as well. You could try it, though?

Hopefully some of the other folks will have some good ideas!!
