Roman Forum access limited?

I think I read somewhere that access is currently limited within he forum due to restoration projects. Can anyone confirm this? If it is true, how limited is the access?

Restoration has been on going for years. The forum has been include with the colosseum and requires an admission ticket to get in if that is what you mean by limited access.

Last summer there wasn't much off limits. I believe I could not enter one building, but the rest of it was pretty open, I did not feel as though my experience was shorted. Of course by now they will be working on a different part, so others' experience now may be different.

There seemed to be a lot of areas roped off this May when we visited compared to last year. For example the Bascilica of Maximinus was completely closed and formerly you could walk right into it. Also, not sure if they moved the entrance last year , but it's now about 200m west of the Arch of Constintine. Inside the Senate building, there is now a strange video about Nero, which really is pretty badly done and doesn't add to the experience. Access seemed to be a lot more limited than in the past.

There's a big exposition thing about Nero right now, centered on the Forum and the Palatine Hill, so that's what's going on there. This is Italy, so you're always going to find some things covered in scaffolding or off at an exhibition somewhere. If you're lucky, they've put up a photo of what's missing. But I was really looking forward to seeing a particular painting by Caravaggio at the Doria Pamphilj Gallery in Rome last week. It's his famous painting of Mary Magdalene. I got to the spot in the gallery only to find that it had been replaced with some random painting of a woman by an unnamed artist, with no explanation of where the real Caravaggio is. Sigh.
