We will be visiting Rome and want to purchase tickets for the Colosseum's "Full Experience Underground Levels & Arena".
I have been told that tickets for that specific tour are difficult to obtain, and they are not released until 7 days in advance.
Do any of my fellow travelers know the time of day (Central European time) that those tickets are released for purchase?
I understand that living in the U.S. may require that I get up in the middle of the night to purchase them, and that is not a problem.
Any and all suggestions are appreciated!
There are many threads here discussing this topic
I believe it is 8:30 Rome time
As mentioned, I found the other threads in the forum helpful. There are also many threads on facebook, reddit, etc.. I did many internet searches and read quite a bit of advice before I started the process.
Tickets go on sale 30 days ahead of time - but all tickets for the day do not go on sale at once. 08:30 tickets go on sale 30 days prior at 08:30 Rome time. 8:45 tickets go on sale 15 minutes later, etc.. We got our tickets for 5 March 09:30 Rome time underground tour on 3 February at 02:35 local time (central time zone).
There may be another ticket drop 7 days in advance.
My suggestion is to use the official site to buy tickets. Practice a lot ahead of time to get used to the process. I was up at 2:00AM often! Create your account on the site in advance during one of your practice sessions. And best advice I found - don't give up if tickets are immediately not available when you try, try again and again. Someone ahead of you with tickets in their cart may drop them, get rejected, etc. - then the tickets will be available again. This is what happened for me!
Unsolicited advice - consider the Domus Aurea tour. Highly recommend.
Good luck!
I don't know whether the Colosseum ticket processor tends to be picky about US credit cards, but that is sometimes an issue when trying to buy European sightseeing tickets. It's a good idea to have all your credit cards in front of you when the time comes-and maybe also your debit cards if you're willing to use them for this purpose.
For something this tough to purchase, I'd be inclined to call the issuer of the credit card I really hoped to use ahead of time and notify it of my plan to purchase tickets in Italy. (They may want to know the cost of the purchase.) That may not help, but I don't see how it could hurt.
