This is our first trip to Rome. Is it helpful to buy tour tickets in advance or are tickets readily available at the site. Any tours better than others? I've been reading about new underground tour available? Has anyone done it? Would appreciate your input.
Tickets are readily available at the door or you can buy them at the forum or palatine hill entrance. The 12 euro ticket is good for all three sites. You can also buy them online which will allow you to bypass the lines and go right inside. There are two tours offered by the colosseum. One is of the underground/third tier and one is of the main areas of the colosseum. You can visit the main areas of the colosseum on your own but for the underground you'll need to be on a tour as it's not open to the public. You can book the underground tour at the official site. They have not released underground tours past Sept. 15th so you'll need to keep checking the site if you want to book it. http://www.ticketclic.it/Gb/HTML/musei/colosseo.cfm Use the "collect onsite" option in the middle of the page to view the tours available.
