Roma, where to dine

Three day in Roma! WooHoo, but where do we eat, lol. looking forward to walking around the city but not spending a lot of money on food that I can't read the menu. Any restaurant suggestions for lunch & dinner?

There are a few places that I go back to often: Taverna Triluzzi in Trastevere, Isola della Pizza near the Vatican Museums, and a hole-in-the-wall place called Filetti di Baccala (mostly fried codfish and a few other items, inexpensive and Romans still go there) just off Via Arenula. Lots of places along Via del Governo Vecchio, just off Piazza Navona, follow your nose there (I like Cul de Sac).

Just a couple questions....will you be there in August? What neighbourhood are you staying in?
Our favourite are;
Armando al Pantheon
Pizzarium, trust me, don't miss this place. It is owned by pizza legend Gabrielle Bonci
Trattoria da Teo
For gelato, Gelateria del Teatro
For beers, Open Baladin, and a little pub hidden away directly across from the church of San Giorgio in Velabro, it's so great and I didn't get the name.
For deli, Beppi ei Suoi Formaggi and Roscioli. Volletti is expensive but it's cool and fun to check out.
Katie Parla has a great App. and blog about food in Rome. We followed her advice and were never disappointed. You can have bad food in Rome.

Pizza. Lots of it. It's everywhere.

Now that I think of it there is a place near the Spanish Steps called Pastificio. It's open for lunch and they serve your choice of 2 fresh pastas for the business people & locals. It will set you back 4 euros each for a large plastic container of pasta. And the wine is gratis! No tables. Be there by around 13:00 as they quickly sell out. The best bargain in Roma. Located at Via della Croce 8. Read about it on Yelp.
