Roma Termini to Naples - which train?

In your opinion, is the Intercity Train just as safe and reliable as the "Fast" train (La Frecce)? Am trying to save some Euros and am thinking of taking the Intercity train but only if it is reliable and safe. The additional hour or so that I would be on the Intercity is not an issue for me.
Please respond.
Thanks

Yes. the intercity train is reliable and safe. If you want the best fares, and, you have 90 days or so before travel, you can get fares on the intercity train for 9Euro. You can get fares on the Freccia fast train for 19Euro. I can see these fares right now for early August. The tickets are non-refundable but if cost is your main concern, there are opportunities on www.trenitalia.com

There are not differences, and I'd say no issues at all, in safety or reliability. Just in speed and price.

If you don't mind departing from Roma Tiburtina, you could also use the new Italo service from Rome to Naples. You'll save money by pre-purchasing tickets, but note that those will be for a specific train, date and departure time (which is the same with pre-purchased tickets on the Freccia trains). As I recall, the InterCity trains also have compulsory reservations.
