SOmewhere on the internet I saw a map of the INSIDE of the termini in Rome. Can someone direct me to that please? I have maps of the streets and outside the termini but wanted to know where everything is on the inside. Thank you

Try this site www.grandistazioni.it and then select Our Stations and then Rome. You may ned to go to Services or one of the other options to find different things.

Fredrica, as Nadine mentioned, * www.grandistazioni.it/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=ae2172ceeae7b110VgnVCM1000003f16f90aRCRD * is the best description of Termini that I'm aware of (cut & paste the links inside the asterisks). If you click the links on the left, it provides information on the services in the station. You won't have any trouble finding things in the station, as everything is easily visible. There's somewhat of a shopping mall on the lower floor, which includes ATM's and a small Supermarket (to the right at the bottom of the stairs). Cheers!

Those are helpful and thankful for the site, but I did see a general overall map of the station somewhere (maybe I'm seeing things?) Thanks

Fredrica, I'm wondering the same thing. I'm trying to find a map of Termini that shows the layout of the tracks, especially to see where the Leonardo Express arrives (I know it's satellite track 25, but where the heck is that?).

Years ago the L Express used tracks 24 and 25 which was in the very far right hand corner of the Termini (as you face the tracks). Those tracks are now used by the local line to Civit.... L Express now uses the last track on the right. About half way down the right side of the station. Actually there is a little booth that says Leonard Express.

Okay. So it's those tracks to the SE of the main station that don't run all the way to the end like the others. They can be seen in satellite photos. Thanks for the explanation.

But last Oct the Leonard Express was not using those far track unless, of course, it has been changed since last October.

The Leonardo Express now comes into Track 25 - unless there is some "issue" or maintenance work going on. About 18 months ago it used to come into Track 24 but the powers that be decided to change the arrival/departure point for the LE. As you face the train tracks, with the FRONT DOORS of the station behind you, TRACK 25 will be on your right. It is one of the satellite tracks, so START walking! It takes about 8-10 minutes to walk from the main station (and metro) out to Track 25. As you near Track 25, breathless from the walk, you'll see a small, portable desk on your right. If you did not buy your tickets in the station you can buy LE tickets here - for an extra Euro (so 15 instead of the standard 14). Of course, that's only if the desk is manned! So I'd get my ticket in the station BEFORE making the long trek out to Track 25.

Once out at Track 25, waiting on the train, you can hit the small, albeit expensive, food stand there. Or you can go down the stairs behind you and go the Despar grocery store. The prices here are much better! There are also bathrooms downstairs as you are far from other civilization. (Note - If they are open, it's now about 80 cents). The LE leaves at 22 and 52 after the hour, and is usually on time - so as you're running to the train, VALIDATE your ticket. There are a couple of validation boxes near Track 25 if you forget as you're headed out. Unfortunately, tracks 26-29, also satellite tracks, are where the regional trains to Civitavecchia arrive and depart. Not sure why Trenitalia (or Roma Termini) decided this, but the people with most luggage - cruisers - have to walk the longest distance at Roma Termini. Go figure! I'm surprised there are not more heart attacks as multiple-suitcase burdened travelers run, and run, and run out to the satellite tracks. And of course, most are those cruising or headed to the Airport on this train, are not Italian (maybe that explains the choice of tracks?). This link has a picture of the LE parked at Track 25: http://tinyurl.com/roma-termini

Thanks, Ron. As always, you're an amazing source of practical info (sometimes even more than our fearless leader RS). The reason I was asking about the LE is for our arrival. We're staying near Campo de Fiori for our third trip to Rome, and I'm thinking of having us take the regionale train from FCO to Trastevere and take the tram up to Largo del Torre Argentina and just walk the 1/3 of a mile from there. I wanted to measure the distance from Track 25 to where the buses are and compare that to the distance from Torre Argentina to our hotel. Turns out we would be walking almost the same distance either way. So we'll probably do Trastevere station/tram and save a few euros. All I have to do is reverse-engineer your website instructions from Roma Trasteve to FCO. For newer people to the board, I can't recommend Ron's website too much. http://www.roninrome.com/

We are back from our ITaly trip and found the Rome termini pretty easy to navigate. There are clear signs everywhere-plan ahead where you are going, which metro, which direction, which stop and it's easy. There is LOTS of walking and up and down many stairs and crowded escalators though (warning to anyone with alot of luggage). Otherwise, it really was a good experience navigating the termini. Also, when we left on OCt 19th, the Leon. express left from track 27way out and there was someone there selling the tickets for quick boarding. So what track it leaves from can vary.

Thanks Michael! Using the FM1 will also probably be faster as it comes every 15 minutes - versus the LE. So cheaper and probably faster! We're headed back to Rome tomorrow morning for another weekend visit. Friday night we have dinner for 18 at some restaurant in Trastevere. On Saturday, thermal baths in the mid-morning and another huge dinner that night. We're fortunate to have many, many friends in Rome. But rather than riding a train, we're taking a taxi out to Via Cassia on the northeast side of town as we're staying with friends. Unfortunately our Norweigan Airlines flight back to CPH does not leave until Sunday at 10 PM. So we arrive after midnight and Monday will be tough. We're looking forward to seeing our friends, eating some great food, and doing a little shopping.

Another question about Termini. do the eurostar or fast trains have specific tracks?
we are arriving from Milan on eurostar and changing trains in termini for another eurostar to civitavecchia. I would like to have enough time to grab some food and wonder if the tracks would be far apart Thanks !!!

The are specific tracks for the AV trains, but not all Eurostar trains. The AV's come in at Tracks 8-14 (usually) and if you're coming from Milan on the FASTEST train, it will be an AV. But it's sometimes like an airport - whatever gate is open or whatever track is open. Most of the Eurostars tend to park on the lower track numbers (1-15). There are 29 different tracks in Termini. There is no Eurostar train to Civitavecchia - Perhpas you mean the IC train. It can leave from almost anywhere, but usually stays in the main station, tracks 1-24. If you are not on the IC train to Civitavcchia, you're on a regional train which usually leaves from one of the satellite tracks, 26-29... most of the time from track 28. There is a grocery store in the bottom floor of Termini (Conad). It sells many ready-to-go items. It's would almost be under track 1 - that side of the station. There are many little places to eat and of course, McDonald's. Not sure how much time you have between trains, but it's certainly possible to get something to eat between trains.

We found just returning from ITaly and traveling all over by train that there are good schedules as to arrivals and departures listed everywhere and d frequently as to what track. They do switch tracks frequently, so watch the boards. We were worried that we might miss a train or not know where to go, but it was really pretty easy (even for someone like us who don't do much train travel in US)

The Leonardo Express is using Track (Binario) 28 now. Inside the station just follow the signs along track 24. It's 400 meters to those last tracks. Allow enough time. There was an agent at the train selling LE tix this morning. You can also buy them from the ticket machines or stand in line and buy one from a ticket-seller. I bought one from a machine with a helpful agent assisting me.
