Roma Pass, your experiences

I'll be in Rome for 6 nights and I'm trying to decide on Roma Pass. I typically buy a pass (Paris, Copenhagen, Berlin, etc.) and find them very useful and economical. I can normally look at the website and run a mental calculation about what comes with the pass, and it's value for my planned visit. The website for the Roma pass, however, isn't getting me there.

In my previous visit to Rome, I didn't use public transport very much. We'd typically walk most of the day. We'd take one or two metro rides per day and, too often, took a taxi because the metro was "temporarily" closed when we got there (during normal operating hours).

I'm interested in others' experiences with the Roma Pass, what did you find most valuable? Was it worth the cost? Your experience with public transport in Rome?

Thanks,
Brad

You should tell what attractions you are interested in

With the Roma Pass the 1st 2 attractions are free. Simply Pick the 2 most expensive ones among those you are going to visit and compare their walk-up prices with the cost of the Roma Pass.

If the pass is cheaper, even a single bus/tramway ride or a discounted museum covered by the pass would justify the expense.

TBoss, I'll call special attention to the "Reservations" section of the FAQ page Gerri helpfully provided, specifically the 7.1 "For which museums it is necessary to make a reservation? How can I book?" part. Apologies if you've already gotten to it but you are required to make advance reservations for the Colosseum and Galleria Borghese even if using the pass.

Like you, we felt we needed to use public transit very little during our time in the city; more fun to walk! The pass also doesn't cover trips to/from Fiumicino or use of the FL trains, which we used once to get close to a desired hop-on point of the Appia Antica.

Thanks for the responses. My duh moment was trying to figure out why the website said there were a bunch of participating museums but also talked about two museums? So the pass only gives you two museum entrances (if you have reservations, when required).

I'm thinking I'll just pay for what I visit, it doesn't seem like a great value to me.

Thanks,
Brad

So the pass only gives you two museum entrances

plus unlimited travels on all trains, buses, metros and trams in Rome. Plus some nice discounts on many other museums.

It depends on the attractions you are going to visit: Public transit in Rome is too cheap to be a deciding factor.
