My family of 4 will be in Rome, May, 18,19,20 and leaving the 21st. We have guided tours to the usual highlights. I am not sure if we should get a Roma pass to use to get around the city.Thanks.
You can buy a three day transportation pass for about 11E or something near that.
The Roma Pass is not worth purchasing if you aren't planning on using it to get into 2 sites (and one should be over 10 euros. Otherwise you are better off just getting a multi day transit pass. They are pretty reasonable.
The best value in transportation tickets depends on where you are staying and how much walking you are prepared to do. When the two of us were last in Rome on a weeks holiday we stayed near the Colosseum, which is not exactly central. We bought ten x 1Euro tickets and, including a day trip to Ostia Antica, only used six of them because we found that walking was the most convenient way to get around the city.
Thanks everyone. I appreciate the input.
Connie, will you be touring the Coliseum/Forum? If so check with your guide and see if your admission charges are included in the tour fee or if you'll be paying separately. We're on a guided tour but they are letting us use our Roma Pass for the admission, then we'll be going on our own to the Borghesse. Check the list of museums/sites on the Roma Pass website and see if you'll be going to any of those museums. After your two free admissions you get discount on the other places with the pass Also if you plan to use the hop on hop off bus the Roma pass you get a 5 euro discount.
