Roma Pass or not

If I book a separate tour to see the Colosseum, that already includes the underground tour, should I still buy a Roma Pass or not buy the pass? I feel my options are: 1. Buy the Roma Pass and then call to get a tour of the underground 2. Don't the the Roma Pass and do a different tour group that does the Underground Tour of the Colosseum 3. Buy the Roma Pass and don't use it for any of the "Combo" of the Colosseum, Pantheon and Forum...but use it for other sites and for transportation I am just wondering which is the best/most cost effective way to go.
Thanks again...love this site! Liz

It depends on what you want to see. If you are only interested in the Colosseum, it might not be worth it, but I find it very convenient for transportation and other sights. Make sure your free sights are the costlier ones.

I did the Roma Pass / separate underground booking option in May 2012. Purchased the Roma Pass, and made my underground reservation for the same day I would be using the Roma Pass at the Colosseum/Forum (actually my hotelier was kind enought to call and make the reservation as there was a little bit of a language barrier). Your underground tour tickets are held at the pickup office inside the Colosseum. Your Roma Pass gets you in, skipping the long line, and you go straight to the pickup window, get your underground ticket and join a group waiting for the underground tour. BTW the underground tour also included a visit to the upper deck of the Colosseum normally closed to tourists. In two trips to Rome using the Roma Pass I have only broken even on the cost, but it is handy to be able to use it for unlimited transportation during the three days and not have to worry about buying or stockpiling tickets each time you want to grab a bus or subway.
