Our first stop of a three day stay in Rome was the National Museum of Rome on 01-Nov-13. There, we planned to purchase two Roma Passes which provide access to numerous sites throughout Rome including the National Museum of Rome plus access to the Metro and bus systems for three days. The ticket person said they were out of Roma Passes. What??? How can they be out of Roma Passes??? He then tried to direct us to places blocks away that "could" have Roma Passes for sale. Beware that just because a location sells Roma Passes doesn't mean that they'll have them for sale when you arrive.

You are correct. They could be out. Big run earlier in the day. Someone forget to reorder? These things happen. You have to learn how to roll with the punches. And it is Italy.

So, hthonus (how do you pronounce that name?), you can be a very valuable resource.
Now that you have the recent experience of your trip, and you were foiled in buying the recently higher priced Roma Pass, having added up what you actually paid for your admissions and transportation - - - would it have paid for itself or did you spend more than the price?
I'd love to know.

If you scroll down and read his account you will see that they are frequently out of stock at the main attractions (and he gives lots of alternative purchase locations) and gives pretty much the top benefits and major drawbacks of the Pass.

I always buy the RomaPass at a TI kiosk, they've always been available but I tend to get it by mid-morning.

Was just in Italy and my husband and I purchased our Roma Pass at the TI near the top of Piazza Navona around 6 p.m., on Oct. 29. Did not activate until the next day to get full use of our 3 days of transportation. Was surprised to see a line there at that time of day. Also purchased one later in the day and at the same location this past July when there with my sisters. No line at all then.
