Roma Pass - Kids Free?

My husband, two kids (ages 12yo and 9yo), and I will be in Rome in July. We are looking at the Three-Day Roma Pass as a fiscally smart move to cover the Colosseum/Roman Forum/Palatine Hill and the Palazzo Massimo portion of the National Museum of Rome. In Rick Steves' Italy guide book, it says on page 831 that kids are free when using the Roma Pass. However, I cannot find anything on the website (www.romapass.it) that says that kids are free. Maybe I just haven't seen it?

Anyone done this lately? Can you confirm that kids are free to the first two sites when the adults are using a Roma Pass?

Thanks so much!

I used Romapass 2 years ago with my daughter. Chances are your 9 year old will be free, but not your 12 year old. I agree that the website can be vague about this. Best bet is to go to the Romapass ticket booth and just ask the clerk before purchasing to be clear. The clerks speak fluent English and are helpful.

Anyone under 18 are free at all state run sites. You don't need a pass for either of your kids.

This is from the official ticketing site:

Free:

European and non-European people under 18
Free admission on the first Sunday of the month. On this occasion it is not possible to make reservation

http://www.coopculture.it/ticket.cfm?office=Palazzo%20Massimo&id=58

http://www.coopculture.it/colosseo-e-shop.cfm

Both sites allow free entry for anyone under 18.

Donna is giving you good information except for one tidbit - transportation. In Rome, I believe the cut-off age for free public transportation is age 10 years. 10 and under ride free. If this is the case, you can easily and cheaply buy public transportation tickets at any news-stand or tabacchi shop as you need them. I would discuss this with the Romapass people.

barbnrob94 is correct. When I took my 14-y/o grandson to Rome last year, I bought a RomaPass for me, and just a transit pass for him. Worked fine.

The 9 year old will travel for free with the parents. For the 12 year old, just buy individual tickets as needed. Unless you're riding the metro 4 times a day a pass won't be of value.
