Has anyone used the Roma Pass...is it worth 25 Euros?
Good points...I think we will get one. Thanks.
The thing that made it worth it for us was the 3 day transit pass. When we were there in 2008, we paid 20 euros. The Colloseum/forum was 11 euros and we used the pass at Ostia Antica (6 euros) Because we used the Metro a lot (we stayed one subway stop beyond the Colloseum) and used the bus to go to the Catacombs, we were money ahead with the Roma pass. With the transit pass, we felt free to jump on transit and probably used it more than we would have if we had to pay each time. You need to make a list of what sites you want to see and then see which of them accept the Roma Pass. Pick the 2 most expensive to be your free sites (and I think you get a discount at the others) You can buy transit passes apart from the Roma Pass, so factor that cost in as well when you determine if you are going to be money ahead. I realize this is not a cut and dried answer to your question, but it really depends on what you want to see.
Connie's advice is spot on. I found the Roma Pass to be a fantastic value, but then we used the transit pass a LOT.
Very generally, if you are going to the 2 free sites (i.e., Colosseum and Borghese) and plan to use any bus or metro--bearing in mind that sometimes feet wear out at inconvenient times/places!--then it's worth it.
Also don't underestimate the convenience of not having to wait in ticket lines or rushing to buy a ticket as your bus is pulling away.
Yep, eventhough we didn't use "our money's worth" out of it, it was still so convenient to not have to get in lines, and worry about 15 different tickets, AND we could pop into the two freebies whenever we wanted without worrying about having extra cash on us.
That it covered public transportation was a nice bonus.
For me, the pass was worth it just to avoid the long lines at the Colosseum and the Forum.
Also, I am sure I used the metro & buses more because of it.
Money saved - probably none. Convenience - worth every cent.
With the pass now costing 25 euros it won't save you any money unless you visit at least 3 of the sites covered by the pass or use the transportation part of the pass a lot. You should go to the romapass website to see the list of sites covered and to check to see if you really will save money. The only site you will find a line at that is covered by the pass is the colosseum and you can avoid that line if you buy your tickets at the palatine hill or forum entrances.
I don't use public transportation while in Rome as I find it easier and quicker to walk. If you are going to Ostia Antica, then the entire trip would be covered by the pass. The train there and back and the entrance to the ruins. This would either be free, if it is one of the first two sites you visit, or it will be discounted.
Before the price increase it was very easy to save money with the pass. now you must do the math and really have a plan to use the pass in order to save the money.

If by any chance you will be going this month between Apr 16-25 the "Week of Culture will take place. Hence during these days the entrance to all museums and historical sites (with the exception of Planetario and few others) will be free."

I don't know which ones are not included, I do know the Coloseum and a majority of them are free. I believe you can find out more by visiting the museums' websites. Hence, you won't save much $ then on the museum entrance fees.
However transportation is a different story and you will probably want the pass for that.
We got the Roma pass when we were there last November.
We used the transpit portion and got into the colu. for free.
Even though it may not have fully been worth money, it was worth buying it for the transit pass.
It was So easy to just hop on and off all the subway lines and not have the hassle of paying for tickets each time
The public transit pass good for three days is E11. The Colosseum is E12. So I guess I only have to use it for 1 more site and it is more than paid for.
