Is it worth getting a Roma pass in advance of my trip? Does this make scheduling easier or harder in terms of reservations for museums (Borghese, National Museum, etc.) and the like?
I did not buy it in advance. No reservation needed for the National museum, just show your pass when you arrive.
Nope--pick it up when you get there. We got ours at the TI near Track 24 at Termini after getting off the Leonardo Express. Depending on where you are on the train, it might be behind you when you get off--took us awhile to realize that!
I don't know about the National Museum for sure, but generally you can make reservations separately from having the Roma Pass. The catch for the Borghese is you cannot book online. You have to do it by phone or better yet, ask your hotel/B&B owner to do it for you. You get a reservation number and present this along with your Roma Pass when you arrive at the Borghese.
If you use it for the Colosseum, no reservation necessary. Stay to the left and avoid the lines which go to the ticket counters and all the poor souls who don't have a ticket (Roma Pass) already in hand.
Use the new call back feature at the Borghese - it will not cost you anything to make the reservation. For more info on the Galleria Borghese, pictures, maps, and making that FREE call, CLICK HERE
You can find the Roma Pass in many locations, about 5 just in Termini - either at the PIT (Tourist Informaiton Booth) or multiple newstands. So as suggested, wait until you get here. Good Luck!
Thanks for the info, especially about the new call back feature. That will be a big help.
Get a reservation for the Borghese. We just got back and even though we were in Roma for 4 days our Hotel was unable to book for us as they were booked for 2 weeks in advance.
