Roma Pass-How to use for Borghese when you have to reserve and pay ahead

The Roma Pass sounds like a great deal, but I want to use it for the Borghese Gallery. It appears you have to pay for your ticket when you make your reservaton. Also, if I wanted to use it for the Vatican can I just purchase the skip the line ticket on it's own. Does Roma pass have a student discount?

Roma Pass doesn't apply to the Vatican. The Vatican is a different Nation State than Italy. The Roma pass will pay for the entrance fee to the Borghese, but not the reservation fee. Its different than what Americans are use to, we tend to think of the entrance fee being inclusive of the reservation. In Italy, reservations and entrance fees are separate concepts. Reservation means you get to go at the time you want with out the threat of a stand-by. Think of it like a sanctioned bribe. In the case of the B. Gallery a reservation is required in two hour windows. Most places this isn't the case, but realistically you'll want reservations anyway.

Some people have the idea that the Roma Pass is only applicable to national sites. The pass is a collection of discounts across many types of business entities. I show the card for near everything. You just never know if it applies and who recently joined the initiative.

In this sense, it is possible that the Vatican could be part of the Roma Pass in the future.

From their view point, I don't see why they'd join in. The Vatican could charge 77 Euros (100 bucks) per visitor and still have lines going around the block.

No student discount that I know of.

To use it for the Borghese, you either need to call for a reservation or get your hotel to call for you. You cannot make the reservation online without paying for it then and there.

As the previous poster noted, you cannot use it for the Vatican.

Shelley,

I purchased my Roma Piu card on a Wednesday and had my hotel call for reservations and got one for Friday. I got into Borghese without paying a cent. I got the Piu version because I was going to Villa D'Este in Tivoli and the transportation part was completely covered. My second use of Roma Piu was the Capitoline Museum, free. I then used it for Villa D'Este expecting to get a discount, instead I was admitted for free. I felt I got my money's worth and then some.

I did not have to pay for my reservation ahead of time. I called the Borghese Gallery about two weeks before I went to Italy and I just told them I wanted to make a reservation, gave them the date and time, and they gave me a reservation number. When I arrived in Rome, I bought a Roma Pass at Termini Station. Then when I arrived at Borghese Gallery I gave them my reservation number and the Roma Pass card. I was just in Rome a little over a week ago. If you plan on going to the Colosseum it covers the cost of that also.

I did exactly same as Colleen. Worked out perfect. Not only saves money also can skip the long ticket line at the Colleseum. Simply go directly to the entry and put your Romapass in the machine like the metro. Also free rides on bus and metro for 3 days. Best deal in Italy.
