Family of five. Can't figure out the Roma Pass webpage. We want to see two things 1) Vatican (not on pass) and 2) Colloseum/Forum. Questions - are there two museums at Coll/Forum which would be the two "free" entries you get with the pass? Second - there is a hefty list of "free entrants" on the pass (no - we are from Chicago and gosh, never got that dual citizenship to any of the countries listed who get free passes!)but nothing about kids. Our boys are 14, 12 and 10. Is there a reduced Roma pass fare? Better to skip this and just pay as we go? Order ahead? Help! Thanks.
The first 2 sites you use the pass on are free, it doesn't matter what they are. You could use the pass for the colosseum complex ( colosseum, forum and palatine hill) and then use the other free entrance for the Capitolini museums if you choose.
Kids are not discounted at all. Not for the romapass or at the sites. The discounts are for EU citizens only. You can get a discount for the kids at the vatican museums but not elsewhere.
If you plan to use the pass for 3 or more sites covered then the pass will save you money. The pass also allows you to bypass the line at the colosseum which can save you over an hour of waiting in line. this alone might be worth the extra price. If you plan on using the metro or buses while in Rome the pass will save you money as it also includes 3 days use of the transportation system in Rome. It does not include any transportation to or from the airport. Basically- 2 or more sites and public transportation or 3 sites without public transportation will make the pass a savings for you.
There is no benefit to ordering ahead. Just get it when you get to Rome.

Forgot to mention, the first 2 sites are free and ALL other sites covered by the pass are then at the discounted rate which can be as much as 50%. the pass is valid til midnight of the third day.

Just to add onto Donna's response, the Colosseum, Forum, and Palentine hill all count as one entry. There is a museum at the Palentine hill which is included. The Capitolini Museums which Donna references are at the top of the Forum, but a separate site. You could use your second entry here if you wished. However, if you are really only interested in the Colosseum and the Forum, the Roma Pass might not be the best choice for you. It also depends on how much you intend to use the transportation pass that comes with it. I loved the Roma Pass for its convenience in skipping the lines at the Colosseum and elsewhere, but we used it for both free entries plus a fair bit of public transit.
Also with the combo site (colosseum, forum, palatine hill) you have two consecutive days during the validity of the pass to see these three sites and have it count as one entrance. So if you see the colosseum on Monday, you can come back on Tuesday to see the forum and palatine hill as long as your pass is still valid. If Monday is the last day your pass is valid you would need to see all three sites that day in order for them to be free or discounted.

We just got back and the Roma pass was well worth it-if nothing more than skipping the lines at the Colosseum! It felt great to just breeze right past that huge long (hot) line and get in. Plus the free transportion is worth it, we took bus and subway frequently, never had to stop and buy tickets at the station, just hop on! We bought our Roma passes at Termini at a newstand -super easy and no lines. Have fun!
The line at the Forum may be considerably shorter than at the Colloseum, so if you don't get the pass, you may be better off starting at the Forum and skipping the line at the Colloseum than doing the reverse.
Should you buy the pass use it for the Coliseum and Borghese Gallery. Also Buy it if you are going to two locations and are going to use public transportation in Rome
YES! Buy the Roma Pass! We only had 1 and a half days in Rome, so used it for the Colosseum and Vatican Museum & it was well worth it to breeze past the HUGE lines and walk right in at the Colosseum! Also, we used the subway to get around everywhere and you just scan the pass & go. Very convenient.
The romapass is not valid for the vatican museums. They are a separate state and not part of Rome.

We purchased the Roma Pass from the train station--easy and no lines. It was great for the trains and buses as well as the sights. Our 15 yr. old paid adult rate. The website is confusing, so I waited to purchase it. Have fun!
