Roma Pass - Getting Discounted Site Before Free Site?

I've seen other questions like this, but I don't recall an answer.

The thing is, our hotel is close to the Ara Pacis and Castel Sant'Angelo, but we want our "free" sites to be the National Museum of Rome and the Colosseum/Palatine Hill. To do this, we would catch the Spagna Metro and go down to Termini and then Colosseo. Then we would need to backtrack to do the other two at a discounted rate.

Is it possible for us to walk over to the Ara Pacis, show them our Roma Passes, and get the discounted rate instead of using one of our free entries on it? Thanks.

My understanding is that the first two sites are the freebies and anything after that falls into the discounted group.

I've only used it once, but my understanding was you needed to go to the two sites you wanted free first. The whole thing operates on a "scan" basis, so it will take your "free sites" the first 2 times it is scanned. Whether a place can get around that, you would only know by trying.
