Roma Pass

Taking my 16 year old to Italy next week, staying there for 5 days and I'm purchasing a Roma Pass. Do I need to purchase one for her also to gain admission to attractions. If not, what transportation pass is recommended for her?

Natasha, no, you don't need to buy a pass for her as she'll be admitted free to the national museums. Private museums - such as the Vatican - will have different policies but the Roma Pass doesn't apply to that one anyway: you'll pay the full adult fee and your teen will pay the reduced-entry fee.

We use transport rarely in Rome as it's more fun - and often more convenient- just to walk. Individual bus or metro BIT tickets are available at many newsstands and tobacco shops for € 1,50, and passes of 24, 48, 72 hour and 1 week amounts are also available. BIT tickets need to be validated before boarding bus, tram or metro, and passes need to be validated upon first use.

Hopefully this page comes up as the ATAC website is sort of buggy! If it comes up in Italian, choose "English" from the dropdown in the upper right corner, and then click "Tickets and passes" from the menu bar in the middle of the page.

Do understand that Roma and ATAC passes mentioned do not cover to transport to or from the airports.

At the colosseum your daughter will bypass the line with you in order to get her free entry ticket. Be sure to bring her passport for proof of age (if not an EU citizen). At other sites, she'll wait in the ticket line to get her free ticket.

The colosseum will be the only site with huge lines that's covered by the pass so waiting in line at other places won't be an issue.
