Roma Pass During Week of Culture - Free?

Hi Guys, I have been to Rome many times, and going back again with my Daughter in the Spring. However, while updating my research, I was checking the Roma Pass site, and came upon this for FREE Admission: - to all visitors during Week of Culture and the anniversary of Rome's foundation (Natale di Roma, April 21), except for the shows held at the Planetarium of Rome in the Museum of Roman Civilization and the New temporary exhibition space Ara Pacis; We are actually landing on the 21st if April, and will be in Rome that week. Does this mean that entrance is free to ALL museums? And if so, how does one bypass the lines? Here is the link:

Many of the museums in Rome are city or provincial museums, so they aren't free on cultural weekend (September 28 and 29). I didn't realize how many non-state museums Rome has until I was there on cultural weekend last year. Some state museums are free while others, like the colosseum, charge a reduced rate. Vatican Museum doesn't participate, although it will be free on September 29 as that's the last Sunday of the month. Whether the Roma Pass would make sense over cultural weekend will depend on which sights you plan to see.

Thanks Frank, I'll check back a month before i leave, and see if I can reserve online, and what the costs will be. I have been to the sites many times, and winging it is fine with me. However, since this will be the first visit for my 11 yr old Daughter, I want to make sure she gets the full effect of this awesome city. Thaanks! Glenn

Hi Glenn, You should know that this year's week of culture in Rome was cancelled, due, I believe, to the poor economy. So it might not be wise to plan around next year's event, in case it is cancelled again. Having said that, Rome, of course, is incredible, and what a great trip for you and your daughter to share! Hope it all works out for you.

Thanks Christine, I will certainly err on the conservative side and ensure we are set for tickets. I want my Daughter to feel the Awe I felt the first time I was in the colosseum :-). Glenn

Good idea, Glenn. It's my understanding that, unfortunately, the announcement about the week of culture doesn't happen until the very last minute, making planning a bit difficult. I'm sure your daughter will be thrilled, enlightened, and awestruck--and certainly will have something wonderful to tell her friends. Have a great trip!

Rome has some free cultural days in the Spring, so keep an eye out for those. I believe there's a cultural week (usually April) and a museum night out (usually May). The state cultural weekend in Italy has been on the last full weekend in September for several years running.
