Roma Pass?

will be in Rome for 3 nights in May,2012 and wanted to purchase Roma Pass online. Some sites are included but require reservations (Villa Borghese)? Any suggestions? Ross

The price of the Roma Pass went up to €30, making it less of a bargain. In three days, if you go to the most expensive sites, it might pencil out. For example, the Forum/Colosseum/Palatino is now €15.50 (according to the Internet), and the Borghese Gallery is from €8.50 to 14.50 depending on the exhibits. If the Borghese entrance is at the high end when you go, it's still a deal to buy the pass. If you get to those two most expensive sites first, they are free. Your transportation on ATAC is also free for three days. But those two, the most expensive tickets, need to be your first two entries to get maximum value. Everything else is a partial discount, a few dollars here and there. Since you only have three days to use a pass, you have to cram in a lot to really save any money. With the Borghese, you must call them and tell them you will use a Roma Pass. They will make a reservation for you and give you a reservation number. For transportation, you can buy day passes and save a little over individual tickets if you do not have a Roma Pass.

Just to let you know, you always need to make a reservation at the Borghese gallery, even if not using a romapass. It has capacity restrictions and if you don't make a reservation you probably won't get in. There are weeks during the summer when they have signs outside saying they are sold out for the entire week. If using the romapass you must call them to make the reservation. It's very easy to do. There is no real advantage to pre-purchasing a Roma Pass online. They do not send the packet to you but give you a code that you can use at various P.I.T.'s (Tourist Info Centers) or other outlets where you can pick up your packet. In some cases, these locations may not be close to your accommodations, and because the Roma Pass is sold at multiple locations, better to just wait. The P.I.T.'s (Tourist Info Centers) do take credit cards, if necessary. With the price increase it does require more organization to get your money's worth...
