roma pass & arch. pass

Steve suggests purchasing both the roma and rome arch. pass, then using the rome pass for free entrance to the Borghese gallery and capitol museum, since these aren't covered by the other arch. pass. He also states that the roma pass provide free entrance to the first 2 sites, 30% of a list of other sites: does this mean the you must visit these 2 sites before visiting any other sites to obtain free entry? In other words do you have to arrange your itinerary to go to these sites first?

Hi Diana,

I was just there in May and bought the Roma Pass. You could choose any 2 sights for your free entry. We used the first free sight to the Colosseum, Palentine Hill, & the forum. Then we used our 2nd Free sight to the Sant' Angelo Castle. The best thing about the Roma pass is you get 3 full days of free transportation (bus & subway). We used the subway a lot to get to each place and it was definitely worth the money.

I'm not as familiar with the rome arch. pass. Depending on how long you're there I'm not sure if it would be worth it. We were there 3 nights and that's all we needed.

Have a great trip!

Yes Diana. you are correct that when using the Roma Pass you must prioritize your sights. The first two sites are free... then you can get discounts on other sites - sometimes up to 50% (depends on the site).... but you do have to plan your FIRST TWO SITES in order. We had the Roma Pass and it worked great. Whichever 2 sites you first vist are the freebies. To maximize your value, it would be best therefore to select 2 of the most expensive admissions as your first 2 visits. Add the line hopping and the transport and it's a winner.

Diana,

We are headed to Rome in July. We bought the Roma pass; not the arch. pass.
RE: Roma pass. My understanding is that you use the pass for the most expensive sights FIRST in order to maximize your value. According to Rick's book, the two most expensive sights are the Coliseum and the Nat'l Museum of Rome. Therefore, the answer to your question is: yes, it is recommended that you strategicially arrange your itinerary to see these sights first.

Hope this helps! Good luck!
