Still don't understand what you mean -- is it safe? fast? convenient? It is commuter run, about 3 an hour, takes about 45 mins to 1 hr 15 depending on the train with first and second seating and some trains have seat reservations. Mid day trains should not have a seat problem but if a seat is absolutely need then get a reservation. Since it is a local train I doubt if the Roma Pass would give you a discount, but I don't know for sure. Ask someone when you get there. If getting off a cruise ship in Civitavecchia, the line to buy tickets will be very long. If in Rome prior, buy the tickets ahead of time.

Thanks Frank. I was looking for a taxi alternative that was reasonably easy. There roma pass has a standard pass and a "plus" pass that looks like it has train service beyond the normal sections of Rome - so I thought it might cover the trip to Civitavecchia. I can't seem to navigate the internet sights well enough to figure out if the port is in one of the "zones" covered by the pass.
