Roma Pass

For those folks just about to head to Rome and are thinking of purchasing the Roma Pass, it is now 23 E, up from the previous 20 E. This makes the calculation required to determine if it is cheaper for you to go with individual admissions or the Roma pass a bit more interesting.

Also, remember that the pass is good for 3 days only. So for example, if you use the metro ticket on the evening you purchased it, it will only be good for the following two (2) days.

Doug, the metro and the museums are on different clocks.

For instance, if you are in Rome for six days, and just use the museum part of the pass for the first three days, you will then still have three days potential for the metro pass part.

Also, everything is now more expensive in Italy due to the dollar's free fall. Near everything in RS's Italy 2009 book is at least one euro more than listed.

If you use the public transportation piece each day, and you visit participating sites (minimum of two) the Roma Pass can be a good deal for you. The Colosseo combo pass currently is €12... and if you head to Galleria Borhgese or Capitolini Museum, then you've almost paid for the pass - and the transportation part is now FREE!

For more info on whether you should buy a Roma Pass, CLICK HERE . For more info on other discounts available in Rome (and for info on how to "skip the lines" at the Colosseo), CLICK HERE .

Once you visit your first two stops (FREE!) then the card gives discounts of varying degree over your three day validation period for other participating sites.

Figure out what day you will be using the museum pass. We bought it, used 3 days of transit & our only day to use the museum pass, it was the last Sunday of the Month --Free day. Haha. That's okay, we supported the Rome Museums & that's what was important to us.

Does the Roma Pass include the smaller atac electric bus in its transportation package? Just saw the bus on a RS tape...looks like a great way to get around when tired of walking.

Also, we will be arriving in Rome on a Wednesday in the am and departing on Saturday in the am. Is a Roma Pass good for 72 hours (3 days) from first use for our transportation needs?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

This my understanding of how the Roma pass clocks work. First, its never 72 hours. The time of the day in which you FIRST use the card starts the day ONE clock. That day ends at 12am. You then have 48 hours of use for which ever clock, museum or transportation, that you started.

GG, yes, you can use the Roma Pass on all ATAC buses, including the electric buses (116, 117, 119, etc.). And Francis, you are correct. It is three days, but day one starts on your first "validation." The "transportation" card is SEPARATE from the "site" card so each card is timed independently. But they are good until midnight of the third day, once you use (validate) the cards.
