The website says that the Roma Pass is NOT currently available. Why? When will it be available again?
There have been a few posts on this recently over on trip advisor and nobody really knows why or when more will be available. Some places apparently still have some, but they are hard to find at the moment. It's possible they are making up new passes for the newer ticket systems or its possible they may be getting ready to raise prices again.
If I'm not mistaken, that means they are unavailable for purchasing online. Was in Rome earlier in the month. Had no problem purchasing the Roma Pass. Picked it up at the Castel d'Angelo, but it is available at all the tourist sights. I would advise not buying it at the Colloseum because of the lines.
Yes, they are just unavailable on the website. It really makes no sense to buy them online anyway as you don't get any type of discount for doing so. Just go to one of the lesser visited sites covered by the pass to pick it up. They are still available. Donna
You can also buy the pass at kiosks that sell bus tickets, newspapers, etc.
Check out this thread on the trip advisor forum: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g187791-i22-k4835171-Roma_pass_really_not_available-Rome_Lazio.html According to those currently in Rome and looking for Roma passes they are very hard to get right now. All vendors seem to be sold out and no one knows when more will be available.
I leave for Rome in 2 days and have been watching this myself. Fingers crossed that it resolves itself quickly!!
Yes, I am in Italy right now and will be traveling to Rome on Friday...I have also heard that Roma passes are unavailable from travelers that have been there this week. Very strange. I guess we will find out ourselves shortly and will report back.
I just got back from Rome yesterday, and at the 5 different places I checked, they were all out of the Roma pass. We got lucky since the Collasium/Roman Forum happened to be free the day we went. I am not sure why and didnt see this in the Rick Steves Italy 2011 book. The subway cost was 1 euro each way, so unless you need to take it a lot, it shouldn't add up to much.
There are still other passes (both to sites and for transit) that might make sense, given your particular circumstance. See Ron in Rome at Other passes Happy travels.
If you just want to get the romapass to bypass the lines at the colosseum you might just want to purchase entry tickets online before you go. They also allow you to bypass the lines and you won't have to worry about trying to find the romapass. Donna
