Roma Pass

Has anyone tried the Roma Pass? Is it worth it for a 5 day stay in Rome?

Look at the website to see what's included, if enough things interest you, it may be worth it. It's a 3-day pass (2-day also available) and includes city transportation. I use it often.

As Zoe said, take a look at what it covers and if those things interest you. Also be aware that a choice of only two 'major' attractions are "free" with the pass: the other free-entry museums tend to be less visited: not a bad thing but they're maybe not on your list if a first-time visitor. Others of the 'majors', after you've used up those two free choices, are just discounted. As with any pass, it's really all about the math and how that adds up or not for your personal interests?

Also take a rational look at just how much you can cram into the 3-day life of the pass. While the list of attractions may be long, there are only so many hours in the day! Some advance planning may be needed to work around Mondays when the national museums are closed. The pass also doesn't cover the Vatican Museums so plan on doing those after your pass has expired (and not on Sundays when they're closed, or the free Sundays when they're even more insanely packed than insanely usual).

There are also many attractions in Rome that are on most first-timer's lists, and which are free - including virtually all of the churches.

We've never used this one as we haven't felt we needed the transport piece, and have gotten around any long queue issues other ways but everyone is different so it's all about whatever works for you!

I just got back from Rome. We purchased a 3 day pass. Children do not need the Romapass. Children get free or reduced prices at most sites anyway. The first two sites are free. Then, you get reduced prices at other sites, plus unlimited public transportation until midnight of third day. Financially for us, it was probably a break-even or even slightly higher cost because we were unable to get Borghese museum reservations. I have no regrets though. We were able to bypass a long line at Colosseum with it and I liked the hop on, hop off transportation option. We used the combo - palatine hill/colosseum/roman forum as our first free site. Then, Hadrian's mausoleum (Castle Sant' Angelo) as our second free site. We skipped the national museum because we were getting weary at the end of our Italy tour.
