We've been to Rome & Sorrento before. Normally, we do 5 cities and are on the move. Does anyone have experience on what to do in Sorrento & Salerno for all those days? Hiking, biking, walking, eating?
Has anyone had experience renting a boat around the coast?
Thank you for any responses.

Personally, I would not recommend taking a train on the day that I land after the long flight. Even if you have already been to Rome, I would suggest using that first day to walk around and fight off the jet lag and spend the first night there. Not sure if you have been to Naples before, but trust me, there is lots more to see and do in Rome than Naples. Then I would just push everything back a day and only spend one full day in Rome on the back end. That's what I would do.
Gelato making class at David's Gelato, which is very close to the Sorrento train station. The class was not on a day that worked for us, but the gelato at that establishment was the best I've ever had, and I've sampled dozens!
Charles- No changing the itinerary at this point, unfortunately. All of our apartments are booked. Thankfully, we've never had bad jet lags (on the way there) so hopefully this time will be the same.
Pat- Thank you for the recommendation of David's Gelato! I've never thought of a gelato making class but that sounds so fun!
It’s a short train trip to get from Salerno to Paestum. Wonderful Greco-Roman ruins and very good museum.
We took the 30-min train from Salerno to Paestum to see the Greek ruins. They’re amazing! You can just walk from the Paestum train station.
Be sure to participate in the evening passeggiata in Salerno and also roam through the oldest lanes.
This describes what we did in Salerno and the Amalfi Coast. And I am going back to Mr. 100 Tiramisu in Rome next year!

Philip- yes Paestum is a must for us. I am so looking forward to that!
Jean- what a wonderful trip report. Makes me wish I had a daughter to go to Italy with! Thank you for sharing.
Check the web site for operating hours of the museum at Paestum. They may be more limited than the hours for the outdoor site.
With the time you have, it's possible you'd benefit from the Campania ArteCard. I don't recommend trying to buy it in person; that didn't go well for me. It's easy to buy within the ArteCard app. I had occasional problems with the app not opening at a museum ticket counter, so it's important to record and take with you your card number (any number you see during the purchase transaction tion). That number will get you into any covered sight.
I also plan on arriving into Rome and taking the train to Naples. It is only 1-1/12 hrs. I see people on this forum quite frequently arriving and taking a train to their next destination. Would I drive, probably not!
I like your itinerary!
We really enjoyed our 2 night stay in Salerno. The ferry ride to/from Amalfi is wonderful- fantastic views.
The evening passegiata in Salerno is delightful be sure to take part in it at least once
One of our favorite meals that trip was at a Greek restaurant in Salerno-Ristorante Mythos

Best gelato at Bar Nettuno
Sorrento- we did the Mondo Guides Capri boat tour- one of our favorite days- so much fun!

@acraven- Thank you for the suggestion of Campania ArteCard. I think we will benefit from that!
@Charlotte- Exactly what I was thinking- I just want to get all the travel over with and wake up in Naples after the big travel day.
@ChristineH Thank you! I'm hoping I didn't cheat ourselves only being in Naples for 1 full day! That restaurant looks amazing- thank you for sharing! Do you remember what you had that you loved there?
I'd have to look a menu- something Greek ;)
You might want to make a reservation if you chose to dine there- we arrived at about 7:45 and were seated immediately- there was no one there so we were a bit concerned. Within 15 min the whole place was full and the line was out the door. Pretty sure that was a Saturday night.
Agropoli would be a nice day trip from Salerno by train or boat. And I would give more time to Naples especially since you haven’t there before.
You mention hiking, biking, walking, but nothing about historic sites so maybe my recommendations will be of no interest. I also note you've been to Sorrento before so I assume you've been to Pompeii. Perhaps the Villa of Oplontis will be a nice adder to what you saw in Pompeii. Also the Archaeological Museum while you're in Naples. We also enjoyed Capri much more than anything we saw along the Amalfi Coast. Didn't hike the Path of the Gods though.
@Rachele Agropoli looks wonderful- thank you!!!
@Allan- We have been to Pompeii, and looking forward to visiting the Archaeological Museum while in Naples. Also trying to see if we can make it to The Herculaneum on a day trip from Sorrento. I just looked up The Villa of Oplontis, and it looks like something I'd love to see! Thanks for recommending it!
