Looking for suggestions as to an itinerary for a three to four week tour of the Umbria region to Milan to the Lake District and points in between. My wife and I are open to traveling by car, by train or a combination of the two. Would also consider Verona and Venice.
Suggestions as to accommodations would be helpful. We enjoy b&b's as well as villas.

The Lake District is a bit of a detour isn't it!
Use beautiful Spello for your base in Umbria. We spent two weeks there and enjoyed doing day trips in Umbria. We always rent cars in Europe.
Which lake or lakes are you considering? Our favorite is Lake Como, but Maggiore and Garda are also beautiful. The only lake we disliked was Orta. Verona and Venice work well with Lake Garda. This sounds like a wonderful trip.
