Road Trip Through Northern Italy - Recommendations wanted

Hi All!

My girlfriend and I are renting a car the first week of May and will be traveling from Innsbruck, Austria up the Brunner highway towards Bolzan Bozen. We are looking for recommendations for places to explore within a short drive in this area. We will eventually be making our way through Milan on our way back to Switzerland. We will have 3 nights/4 days to complete our trip and are on the search for the best views, hikes, and food in the region.

I know there still may be a decent amount of snow making hiking a little harder but willing to adventure out as we live in Montana and are accustomed to cooler temps and a little snow. Made sure we got a 4x4 car for the mountain drives and can't wait to explore.

Any towns, places to stay, or places to eat recommendations are welcome.

Thanks in advanced!

Don’t worry much about snow on the roads by May. It has been about 10 C above average here ( I am in Ortisei) for the last month. Grass in the valley is greening up. It is snowing right now but wet spring flakes. Gillian Price has great hiking guides for the Dolomites. Many lifts may be open to take hikers to the higher country. You will love it. Stop and visit Otzi the Ice Man at the Bolzano Archeological Museum.
