Hi all,
My fiance and I are honeymooning in Italy 9/14-9/26. We're flying into Rome, bumming around the city carless for a couple of days, then hoping to rent a car at the airport on our way out of town. The plan is to then drive to Venice over the next 10 days, with stays in Orvieto, Siena, Florence, Vernazza and day trips in between.
We're making hotel reservations for Rome and Venice, but want to play it by ear up through Umbria and Tuscany...we'll probably just have a list of potential places in each area that we'll check out when we get there.
I'm wondering if anyone else has done anything like this in Italy? Any recommendations on where/who to rent a car from? I know we can't drive into the towns in Cinque Terre...is there someplace we can we park for a couple of days while we hike the trail and check out the towns on foot?
Also, of course, any accommodation recommendations for any of the above-mentioned places are always welcome. :) Our budget is around $100USD a night.
Thanks in advance for any info! Neither of us has ever been to Italy before, so we're flying a bit blind here, despite being well-armed with travel books. It's a little overwhelming. So thanks!
