Road Trip from Lucca to Rome

My family of 4 adults are renting a car and driving from Lucca to Roma. We are looking for places to stop along the way. It seems will be on the E76 to the A11 to E35, E45, and back to E35. Does anyone know of any good places to stop along the way? Grazie

You are traveling on the major roads of the area. E35 is A1 autostrada, the main autostrada between Florence and Rome. Directly on the route is Orvieto in Umbria. Not far off the route are Montepulciano and Cortona. Otherwise just stop anywhere although the A1 is not all that exciting. If you get off it and take a few back roads you might have more fun.

Rather than the A1/E35, take the Firenze-Siena Autostrada.

Towns along the way, time to get there.

Lucca>Colle di Val d'Elsa. 1H18

"Colle">Montereggioni 10min.

Montereggioni>Montalcino 1 hr

Montalcino>San Quirico de'Orcia 15m

San Quirico>Castiglione del Largo 50 min.

You're now on the A1

Castiglione>Cetona 30 min.

Cetona>Orvieto. 50 min.

Orvieto>Tivoli 1 1/2 hr.

Tivoli> Roma 30 min.

I'd pick max 2 places to visit and a stop for lunch.

Maybe Montereggioni cuz it's a quick stop. Montalcino for lunch. The drive through this area on the 146 is beautiful.

Castiglione del Largo is about half way.

Google the towns to see what appeals to you.
