In three weeks my husband and I will be embarking on a road trip from Germany to a overnight in Grindelwald Switzerland, stop over in Annecy France. Then we will stay two days in Provence and 2 in Saint Raphael. I have figured out good stopping points for lunch breaks up until our drive to to Lake Como. The drive is six hours long and we would like to stop around the 3 hour mark to take a break. Are there any interesting towns or scenic rest stops along the E80, that wouldn't add much time to our trip?
Varnazze. Former midieval fishing village. Now a boaters paradise. About 20 miles from Genoa. Lots of good restaurants. Beautiful marina.
Edit. Hopefully you're returning your car in Germany. You could otherwise incure a hefty drop off fee
If you're willing to add about 45 minutes to your drive time, you could get off the E80, and stop in Bra, the home of the slow food movement. If you cannot find a wonderful lunch there, you won't find one anywhere. Bra is, according to the google, 3:27 by car from Saint-Raphael, and then another 2:54 to 3:08 depending on routing and toll tolerance. The faster route takes the A7, which will also go through Alba and Asti, two other small cities with fantastic cuisine.
Thank you Gerri and Max. I will research both of those towns and see what works best for our time constraints.
