I'll be flying into the Palermo airport and picking up a car from Auto Europoe. Will they have good roadmaps of Sicily at the airport or car rental places?

Unfortunately, no. I purchase my Michelin maps at a Barnes & Noble bookstore or here on Rick's website under Travel Store and take them with me to Europe. You can also buy them there at a gas station, however, they will be in a foreign language (not necessarily a big deal). By the way, AutoEurope is a car broker for Avis, Europcar, etc. Make sure you have a copy of your contract and know which agency you are looking for. When you turn the car in, take pictures, inside and out to prove the condition it is in. Avis tried to charge us extra because they claimed the car (after 3 weeks of driving) needed to be detailed. We did not pay it. Have a great trip.
Buy a map before you leave. You may want to check Rand McNally online [http://store.randmcnally.com/] or go to the local AAA office.
...however, I have found that a GPS will do you much more good. There are roundabouts with numerous roads coming off of them everywhere in Italy and Sicily and the roads are poorly marked. It would be to your advantage to buy a GPS (with European maps) before you leave and learn to use it and program it. I wouldn't drive there without mine.
The TI at the Palermo airport is quite good, but purchase a Touring Club of Italy Sicilia map before you arrive.

Thank you all for the good advice.
