Ristorante il Caminetto Cooking Class near Varenna

Hi all,

Saw this written up in the Italy guidebook. Wife and I are thinking about doing this. Anyone do it recently? Any other recommendations for a cooking course either in Varenna or Cinque Terra? Sounds like would be a fun time!

Thanks!

We took this class a couple of years ago. Loved it. It's more of a demonstration than a hands-on class (although we got hands-on at one point). But very entertaining. And the meal we had at the end was fabulous ... one of the best risottos we had in Italy. The charming Chef Moreno picks you up in Varenna and brings you back about 5 hours later, so it couldn't be easier. Reserve a spot well in advance, so you don't miss it.

I agree with everything Charlene said. I had such a fun time at this class and the food was delicious - we were very well fed throughout the day. I've been thinking lately that it would be a fun class to repeat. Now, I just need to get back to Varenna!

We took the class almost 5 years ago. It was one of the highlights during a 4 week trip. You will be picked up and dropped off in Varenna. Yes, the class is primarily a demonstration, but I did get to help with the gnocchi. You will also be well fed all day, along with plenty of wine. Prepare to spend the entire day there. We had 2 women who had a train to catch and Chef Moreno had to rush through the risotto. He wasn't particulaly happy about having to do that. Besides that annoyance (not that he was annoying, the women were), he was charming, funny and his English is great. I would happily take the class again. I don't know how much it costs now, but we paid €35 and it was worth every €!

Quite a few of my tour members enjoyed their evenings last fall. I think I'll try it myself, this year.
