Rione Monti area of Rome lodging recommendations

I appreciate all recommendations on this blog. My wife and I reciprocate by posting personal recommendations from our 2 trips to Italy in 2016 and 2018.

Can anyone please recommend a good hotel or B&B in the Rione Monti area of Rome, preferably near the Colosseum. We are going next Oct for 4 nights and looking for a room rate between US$100 and $150/night. Thanks

Hello. My wife & I stayed in Monti about 16 months ago, and we really fell in love with the neighborhood. We researched many places, and ended up booking with Nicholas Inn (which we found in the RS guidebook). A few things we liked about our stay is the hotel is very small, perhaps only 4 rooms, so we felt as if we were living in a Roman apartment for a few days (but no kitchen). The rooms are modestly furnished yet comfortable and the price is very budget friendly - especially for the area. It’s located on Via Cavour, which is a busy street, but the noise did not affect our comfort. During our stay, the room fee included breakfast at a local coffee shop/bakery down the street which is full of locals in the morning. Well, that’s my 2 cents...good luck!

We stay in this apartment on Homeaway Property # 1027379. Breakfast provided. Near the Colosseum, St Peter in Chains, Metro.
Very clean. Near excellent restaurants. About $135/night

Caroyn, thank you for your reply. Do you mind me asking what time of year you were in this apartment

loken324, thanks for the recommendation for Nicholas Inn. My wife and I stayed there 2 years ago. It was a very nice place for the value. Polite and helpful staff. Comfy, clean, small, rooms with private bath and we liked that there were only 4 rooms. The location is fantastic. The elevator won't stop on 2nd floor where Nicholas Inn is located but it is only 2 flights to climb. My only complaint was the thin walls and/or loud talking neighbors we had one night. The breakfast coffee shop was great and run by nice folks. We may stay here again on next trip but are looking for all options.

I am not sure if Nicolas Inn is still in business. My email to them are returned as undeliverable. I cannot make a reservation in advance on any websites???
