Hi, I will be traveling around Italy with my 3 friends; We are all in our early 20s and I'm wondering if it would be better for us to spend the few days we are trying to plan in Rimini or in Florence. I'm hoping for good food spots, unique sights, and not too the most touristy of areas. Thanks!
Rimini is famous for its beaches and nightclubs (as well as being the birthplace of director Federico Fellini), and Florence is famous for its Renaissance art. Which are you looking for?
Summer travel? Rimini -- and all the beaches on the Adriatic -- will be lively in July and August, especially. Could be a fun cultural experience to go to an Italian beach town when Europeans are flocking there for holiday. Not a lot of sights, although you can easily visit Ravenna (famous ancient mosaics), Urbino (Renaissance city), and San Marino (a bit touristy).
Harold gave you the quick up to the point description of the two places.
I will also add that Rimini is a vibrant Spring Break Miami Beach on steroids in Summer (especially July and August), but not that “hot” the rest of the year.
Florence is vibrant all year, but in July and August it will be very hot (in the sense you will die of heat) therefore you’ll be yearning for a swim in the sea but all you’ll get is a funky beach on the smelly river Arno.
So base your decision also on the time of the year you plan to travel. Late June through August maybe I would consider Rimini, but the rest of the year you’ll have more fun in Florence.
Picking up on Harold's post - If you do go to Rimini , be sure to watch one of Fellini's great films , about his coming of age in Rimini ( late 1920's and 1930's ) " Amarcord " It's a beauty , and perfect for a couple of twenty year olds . You will remember it as long as you live . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amarcord
Awesome thanks so much for your responses!!
