Rifredi, Florence

I'm trying to get tickets from Orvieto to Florence on April 26. SNCF shows only 2 train trips, going only to Rifredi, none to Santa Maria Novella. They don't even show TER trains. I also looked on Google Maps, how to get from that station to the other. Their only answer was 'walk' 52 minutes. They do show 2 bus trips. I would prefer the train if I could figure out how to get back to Florence.

Now I really feel stupid. I was looking on the wrong website. We are going to France also. I wonder how they had anything?

They are not showing the many regional trains, only the IC trains and IC trains from Orvieto to Florence only stop at Florence Riredi station. IC trains would have to back out of Florence SMN because it is a terminal station. Freccia trains can do it because they have drive car on each end of the train and regional trains terminate at SMN and can be temporarily taken out of service and reconfigured. The IC trains continue north to Bologna and beyond. There are frequent regional trains to transfer passengers from Rifredi who want to go to SMN.

Thanks Sam,
That wasn't the problem. Read my message before yours. LOL. I was looking at France's train system. I am also going there.

Now also IC trains are reversible, they have a driving trailer as the last car. The problem with Santa Maria Novella is that the station is working at full capacity as trains to/from Rome cross the path of trains to/from Milan and you can manage only a maximum number of them per hour; trains over this limit must stop at Campo di Marte and/or Rifredi avoiding SMN. A notable number of Milan-Rome and vv. Freccia trains simply do not stop at all at Florence, using the Rifredi-Campo di Marte avoiding itinerary.

I'll be traveling the same route. Are taxis easily accessible at Rifredi to take us to the tourist area?

You might look up a phone number for a taxi company in Florence. Google Streetview shows parking spots available for taxis, but none sitting there. Otherwise take a regional train 5 minutes into SMN.
