riding the circumvesuviana train

we will be in italy next week and sorrento the following so i am curious about riding the circumvesuviana. we have studied all of the safety tips mr. steves has offered in his books and online but we are all carrying the 25" size of luggage. is there a "safe" area to store them on that train or should we keep them with us even if they have to "occupy" a seat? how about other trains like the italo and regionali trains from city to city? a safe way to store? thanks for your help.

I wouldn't put them in a seat if the train is crowded. It's a commuter train with limited seating and taking up a seat for luggage wouldn't be right. You can keep the luggage with you but put it next to your seat or you can try to slide it under the seat if it will fit. Donna

The trains are more like trams or subway trains. You just keep the bags next to you. When you get off the train in Sorrento, go down the few steps to enter the station then go to the far left, there's an elevator down to street level.
