I'm in Italy right now and have been using Rick's audio app for citywalks, museums and churches. I absolutely love his guides but I also felt that it only covers the important/famous stuff. Like in Uffizi, I wanted information on Caravaggio but Rick doesn't cover it.
I have a Vatican Museum tour lined up in a few days and I'm wondering if I should just continue with Rick or should also buy the Vatican Audio guide on site?
Similarly, I have a Borghese ticket and Rick has no guide for it. Are there any recommendations for Borghese about whether to buy on site audio or download/buy from elsewhere?
At the Borghese, we actually got a tour with a guide from the museum, at the desk near the bag/coat check. It was helpful in making the most of the limited time window the Borghese entry allows.
We’ve also used Rick’s audio guides quite a bit and like them. I think the RS museum audioguides are good for when you aren’t sure what to see in a particular place, or don’t know where to start (this is usually me!). I would think an audio guide produced by the museum would have the more comprehensive information you’re looking for. It think it would probably be worth a few euros for the museum guide (vs the free nature of the RS App).
I can confirm that the Vatican Museums' audio guide is more comprehensive than the RS audio tour. His hits the highlights. If you want to know more, use the Vatican Museums' guide.
