Can I buy a copy of Rick Steve's Italy guide in Rome? I forgot mine at home and would like a copy. I looked in Florence but had no luck. I also thought about downloading a copy to my iPad but the cost is $26.99! I thought it would be cheaper so I figure that I'd rather pick up a copy. I'm in Centro Storico, very close to the President's Palace. If you know of any bookstores that sell English copies of the Italy guide, or a cheaper version that I can download online, I would appreciate it. Thanks!
Ask the hotel desk for the nearest bookstore that sells books in English. I've seen them in stores there and even in the airport, but can't remember where they are specifically located. You may just have to download the book and pay the bucks.
I bet $26.99 is cheap compared to the price you'll find it for, in print version, in Rome. But I remember paying something like $14 week i bought it from iBooks, that sounds awfully high to me.But the price there will probably be the same digits, but in euros (I.e. will cost about 30% more).
Sorry that the book missed the flight. That price will look expensive - but what is the cost of your vacation per hour? How many hours will you have to put into finding a print copy of the book? You may find that the price isn't that expensive after all. Have a wonderful holiday.
These two bookstores are supposed to have them. Anglo American Book Co Via Della Vite 102 Rome tel. 066-789-657 Libraria Feltrenelli International Via V.E Orlando 84/86 00185 Rome

Unless you are blindingly following the cult, I suggest at this point any English language guidebook will serve you well. Take the good advice given above for finding an English language bookstore.
Do you have an e-reader with you? I had mine stolen in Venice (at the hotel desk) and had to download a copy onto my Kindle.
It was expensive - but I was on the MyTrip with RS and needed the book. I have seen them is a couple of book stores in Sienna....
Spring for the iBooks version, it will save you time and money.
Thanks for your help. I have been to Rome before so it's not like I don't have some knowledge. I also downloaded a few free e-books that provided some information, and have my iPad handy to look up a few things however having the guide will help. I did look on iBooks and that's where I saw it for $26.99. I will look again. Maybe it was the boo version but I'm pretty sure it was that much. I will also contact the people at Rick Steves. My mom is a history buff and knows a lot. She's been a great tour guide! lol. Thanks again.
Contact the RS staff (use the "contact us" option). They'll send you a list of all the places that sell their books for whatever location you want.
Me too George. I don't understand why we pay so much more. I remember a few years ago when I heard that they were going to reduce the costs of books, magazines, and greeting cards so that they were in comparison with the US value but it never happened! Can I sign up for a US account and download a copy for $12.99? I have a relative in the US. I could use her address as I know she wouldn't mind. Thanks for the info.
Ok. Sounds too complicated. I can't believe the price difference though! I wish they would reduce the prices on Canadian books, magazines and greeting cards. It's like Amazon. Everything on the US version is so much cheaper but costs Canadians more! I guess the government likes to believe that we make a lot more money!! lol. If they only knew!
Does anyone know if I can download the ebook version through Barnes & Noble on my iPad? It's cheaper and I ddon't have to worry about having a US address (I think). http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/rick-steves-italy-2013-rick-steves/1110144493?ean=9781612383798
I just figured it out. Everything seems to be for US stores, or mostly for the US stores. I am new to the iPad, and Apple. I am learning that there are a lot of apps. that won't download on the iPad. Errrrrr..... I hope the people in customer service at the Rick Steve's office will help me out. I sent them a message tonight.
Sorry. This thing is bugging me. I went to amazon.ca and think that I am able to download but it won't allow me to. It gave me this message: Due to copyright restrictions, the Kindle title you're trying to purchase is not available in your country: Italy.
How does it know that I'm in Italy if I have a Canadian address on my account? Does anybody know what to do?
It knows where you are based on IP. You would have to go to the Italian version of B&N to get the book. You are better off just paying the $27 for it via the Canadian iTunes and chalking it up to a learning experience.
Yes, I know. I was thinking the same thing. Thanks.
I looked at RS books when I was in Milan a few years ago (they aren't distributed here). The prices were about 30-50% over the U.S. list price.
