Rick doesn't mention in his book how much time to allow for this walking tour. Does anyone know how much time I should allow for this walk (not including the Basilica of St. Francis). We will have a day and a half in Assisi, spending two nights. Any itinerary suggestions? Should we do the Basilica first thing?
I have done both. There is no specific order. Depends on how much gawking you will do. My family and I take the "slow lane" approach when sightseeing. I would plan on 3 hours for the Assisi town walk (with no break). We took a lunch/hotel break in the middle. (Again - our travel style is savor mode). The Basilica is quite large and has several layers to explore. I would plan on 2-3 hours for the basilica. If you are not that much into art or prayer, you can go through it faster. Mid-week is less crowded than weekends.
I love Assisi. It's beautiful. Stroll at sunset and night time, or any time!, for beautiful views.
Thank you! Yes, we like to "savor" too.
Check out Ristorante Metastasio in Assisi for a stunning view from your table. Time the reservation so you are there at sundown (and be sure to tell them you want a table with a view. The food is fine, but you go for the view.
