I am wondering rougly how much time I should allot for the self guided walks(Roman Forum Walk, Dolce Vita Stroll, and Heart of Rome Walk) for Rome that Rick provides in the Italy 2012 guide book.
On page 92, RS suggests 1 to 3 hours for the Heart of Rome Walk depending on how long you stop along the way and how fast you walk. That is reasonable. We won't know those answers, only you. For the Dolce Vita stroll you are looking at the Passeggiata which occurs during a couple of hours in the evening. How long is similar to previous - how much do you want to do, how much window shopping, how much girl and guy checking out, etc. An hour or two would do me, but I'm going to be on some of those streets anyway. (page 377) page 116 for the Roman Forum Tour. Same answer. RS says to allow 90 minutes. When I get involved in ancient Rome I am often there half a day or more.
I would guess you can walk them in a hour but I prefer to stroll, stop and look so 3 hrs is much better.
Rick's walks are great but wanted to let you know about a new book Walking Rome: The Best of the City on Foot by National Geographic. It is $14.95 and might be worth look if you are spending a
few days in Rome.
Anyone know what page the Heart of Rome walk is on in Rick's 2011 book? I cannot find it.
In Rick's Italy 2012 book, it is on page 762, with a map on pages 764-765.
Nigel, thanks for the info. Did that come from the RS Rome or RS Italy guidebook? In the Italy guidebook the pages you refer to are about Vernazza and Venice.
Rome 2012.
That explains it!
