If you want some other surreal web experiences, Google Maps Satellite views updates regularly, you are now seeing public areas (Venice, St Marks Square) basically empty. Somewhat related, but real time, there are many live webcams available, all showing empty areas.

Indeed, the Italian webcams I look at daily sadly show vast emptiness. There did seem to be a wee bit more traffic in some of the campi in Venice the past couple days, such as Campo Santa Maria Formosa. My favorite webcam for Venice is the following one, as it rotates about every 15 seconds between 8 or so views around the city...
