Reviews of Motor Valley (Emilia Romagna) Sport Car Museum,Factory Tours?????

Hello,
My 17 year old car obsessed son and myself will be in Italy for two weeks in June and are looking at two different companies based out of Bologna that offer very similarly structured all day tours/lunch of famous Italian sports car manufacturers. Small groups in a luxury van with tours of museums/factory/assembly line tours and a nice lunch. I have read reviews of both on TripAdvisor but am hoping to get some feedback on the RS forum who have direct experience with these two companies.

The owner of the above tour company is the only tour guide and used to work at Ferrari. They have more TA reviews, virtually all very positive.

The website for the above company is not as informative and I have sent an email request for more information. Less TA reviews and a few negative.

If anyone has any direct experience with either of these tour companies I would love to hear about your experiences. Thanks in advance.

Best,

Gerri,
Thanks for the response! Have you done either the Ferrari or Lamborghini tours on your own? The tours from these two companies that my son likes tour Lamborghini, Ferrari and Pagani. It's all day and includes a stop for lunch so it would be a bit of a splurge and luxury for us to have it all arranged and coordinated for us. I'm open to doing it on our own and am looking at the links you provided.

Best,

I would stay in Modena, instead of Bologna, to be closer to your destinations. You could easily devote a full day to Ferrari, since they have two museum locations, connected by their private shuttle bus. See the Factory Tour description (same as Gerri provided). You may want to do it, but note that it does not go inside any factory or building; you stay on the bus, with company narrator, cannot take photos, and drive past various buildings and onto the test track during their lunch break.

Laura, thanks for the response. Getting more access is why we are considering these more encompassing tours. Motor Star Tours is owned/run/guided by a guy who used to work at Ferrari. The website intimates that you see museums, factories and factory floor tours. So, more close up and personal, and for 250 euros one would hope so. I don't think a drive by, whistle stop tour from inside a van window will do it for my son. Again, if it is all that reviews seems to claim, inclusive of lunch it would be a luxury I'd be willing to pay for.

I'm reading because I am interested in the topic.

I've never been to any of those tours or factories so I don't have anything to contribute to the choice.

But I am a long time user of TripAdvisor - at least 15 years - and former reviewer and contributor. I've fallen out of love with them because of so many fake reviews and their charging policy to owners before anything can be found on TA. That's completely opposite than it was when I made my hundreds of contributions.

I am very suspicious of listing with too many top reviews, especially if they fail the smell test.

I hope that you and the lad find just what he is looking for.... good luck.

Please come back after the trip and let us know how it went - you will become the expert

I've just looked at the webpage for the one man one - did you see that the 250€ tour does not include the Lamborghini tour and none of his tours include Ferrari tours?

The Please Note pull down is interesting - I tried to copy the notes but they are locked. Worth a read though... as are the other pull downs.

Motorstars' White and Green routes, for instance, are promising the "Ferrari factory shuttle-bus tour," which I'm sure is the same one that you can book yourself. I haven't been to Lamborghini or Ducati and have not studied what those locations offer.

If the tour sounds appealing I would splurge and do it. My husband and I did the factory tour of Lamborghini.... he absolutely LOVED it and I liked it. . He has been to the Ferrari museum several times in Modena, the factory tour and museum of Pagani and the factory tour of Maserati. I would stay in Bologna instead of Modena. I spend half the year in the area and really think Bologna has a lot more to offer than Modena.

@ Nigel, yes I agree about the veracity of TA reviews and that's why I came here for a double check. Thanks for pointing out the the Motor Star Tours lack of particular tours for Ferrari and Lamborghini. They just updated their website today with a chart that details specifically what each tour is comprised of. I may get more ambitious and just try to string a few of the big ones together myself. By taking one of the two tour companies I referenced I was simply trying to outsource the planning and logistics and see several in one day but it seems like we may be better off planning and doing it on our own.

@Linda, thanks for the critiques of the individual tours. My son would love to do all that you mentioned.

You'll need to own a Ferrari and have an invitation from your dealer to get a true inside factory tour there. The museum and outside tour are open to all.

Lamborghini has a true factory tour open to all (book at https://www.lamborghini.com/en-en/experience/museum). It's pretty far from Bologna without much public transport (maybe one bus per hour); I don't think you could visit two sites, much less three, in one day without a car or a private tour guide.

"The website intimates that you see museums, factories and factory floor tours. " is what anyone gets with the 2 museum Ferrari tour.
We took the train from Bologna to Modena (28 minutes) and then the very short walk to the Museo Enzo Ferrari (https://www.yelp.com/biz/museo-enzo-ferrari-modena). We really liked it. I think you should buy your son a steering wheel as it is only €3500.
We had a wonderful lunch at https://www.yelp.com/biz/ristorante-enzo-modena
