Driving into Rome frm last Tuscan overnight stay in Orvieto and Orvieto has closed their Avis office. I've trolled the forum and found this advice and I was wondering if it was still good and/or if you could add to it or change the drop off location. It would be a Monday mid/late morning. Don't want a ticket a year later. Considering returning the car to Termini and then making my way to my hotel near Plaza Navona from there.
from a post on here in 2010: A little more info on getting to the "drop off' garage at Roma Termini. As you come down the north side of the terminal - that would be Via Marsala - you will have to drive the full length of the station to get to the FIRST right turn you can make.
This RIGHT TURN is a tunnel - Sottopassagio A, Pettinelli on your Google Map. There are two entrances, both going RIGHT. Take the second one - not the first one,. If you take the first one... it loops you back around the Termini station and you have to do another circuit as it funnels into one-way traffic.
VERY IMPORTANT - To make the LEFT into the parking garage, you have to take the second tunnel entrance, which funnels the traffic in the oposite direction from Termini, which is where you want to go! I learned this about 8 years ago the hard way....
from another post I think: I've worked out a fairly good system on returning a car by taking the via Tiburtina exit on the A1 highway in Rome East. There are several locations to fill your fuel tank on via Tiburtina which runs right next to the Termini location
I've sent several emails to Avis but they never seem to answer my international questions so I thought I would ask here.
