returning Avis rental car in Rome - past forum posts say this - still valid?

Driving into Rome frm last Tuscan overnight stay in Orvieto and Orvieto has closed their Avis office. I've trolled the forum and found this advice and I was wondering if it was still good and/or if you could add to it or change the drop off location. It would be a Monday mid/late morning. Don't want a ticket a year later. Considering returning the car to Termini and then making my way to my hotel near Plaza Navona from there.
from a post on here in 2010: A little more info on getting to the "drop off' garage at Roma Termini. As you come down the north side of the terminal - that would be Via Marsala - you will have to drive the full length of the station to get to the FIRST right turn you can make.
This RIGHT TURN is a tunnel - Sottopassagio A, Pettinelli on your Google Map. There are two entrances, both going RIGHT. Take the second one - not the first one,. If you take the first one... it loops you back around the Termini station and you have to do another circuit as it funnels into one-way traffic.
VERY IMPORTANT - To make the LEFT into the parking garage, you have to take the second tunnel entrance, which funnels the traffic in the oposite direction from Termini, which is where you want to go! I learned this about 8 years ago the hard way....

from another post I think: I've worked out a fairly good system on returning a car by taking the via Tiburtina exit on the A1 highway in Rome East. There are several locations to fill your fuel tank on via Tiburtina which runs right next to the Termini location

I've sent several emails to Avis but they never seem to answer my international questions so I thought I would ask here.

In 2016 we rented in Orvieto and returned to Rome Termini. It was Hertz but I believe all the rental car returns are located in the six story parking garage across from the station. Hertz was on the 6th floor, but there were small signs and we knew ahead of time that it was up up up with tight turns (we had a small car). I found (at the time) a step by step pictorial guide to getting into this parking garage, which really helped. I could not find it today or I would post the link. No ZTL's and no ticket (2 years later lol). What also helped was going slowly and having at least 2 persons in the car for navigation. We actually chose "no highways no tolls" from Orvieto which took longer (2 hrs 45 instead of 1 hr 25), but was way more fun, going through walled towns etc on the way to Rome. We even stopped at a large grocery and got some supplies for our air bnb in Rome. We had four hours til checkin so this was fun way to explore. You can do this!

One note: our plan to catch a taxi outside the train station required about 3 blocks of walking to get to the "official" taxi stand. The first taxi we saw offered to take us the short distance for 25 euros. I asked was he a "official" tax and he admitted no, and cheerfully directed us to the taxi stand. Which cost about 12 euros. So plan on figuring out where the taxi stand is also.

P.S. When you get out of your car at the end, take a video walkaround or a few pictures of the car upon return. Let them see you doing this, to prove no damage....you never know and it's worth a few minutes.

Have fun!

I assume there is no Avis location at Tiburtina station?
I know Europcar has one there.
If that is an option, personally I would rather drop off in that area ; would be easier and then just take a cab from there to where I was staying in Rome. That is a big bus station so easy to catch Taxis from.

Set your GPS to return at the multistory ES Giolitti parking garage below.
Avis, and all other rental returns are there.
The easiest way is to get there from the east. Take the G.R.A. beltway A90 going around the city on the east side. Then exit at the exit 14 for the A24 - Tangenziale Est (going toward the city center), then listen to your GPS instructions.
Look at Google Maps to get an idea.

THanks for all the great tips. I am going to take a taxi from the train station to my hotel so I guess I could do Tiburtina as well - is that so much easier? Any idea about how to get to the Avis there?
